"When I first saw her work I was struck by how it was so raw and unfettered. Lana’s work is truly unique and not merely adapting the techniques and ideas of her predecessors. Nothing is held back. When one views her work they do not see the façade of ordinary life they see the artist in all her glory. What more could one ask for."

"Even as someone who is already a fan of Lana G's canvases--bristling as they are with a complex of emotions and seductions and her unique mastery of color and texture--I found "The Misrepresentative" to be a stunningly good piece of work. Less sensuous, yet more emotional, than her previous work; this new painting is even more haunting.

The face at its center carries a strange combination of sadness, confusion and guilt...like the proverbial "deer in the headlights" but one who knows they're there by their own fault. The set of arms and hands that reach up to touch the face come in in a trick of perspective that is at once visually arresting and emotionally heartwarming. Like all really good art, "The Misrepresentative" rewards long, lingering stares and return visits."

I checked out your site. Your art moved me to the point of literally making my heart beat faster. The last time I experienced that was at the Pollack exhibit at the Whitney.

I find your paintings to be primordial and as such unencumbered by the complexity which tend to obscure the artist's intended emotional intent or impact. Your obvious ability to recapture your age of innocence and so elegantly translate it, gives your work a uniqueness that makes it, to say the very least, challenging to categorize. I am rarely moved by an artist's work to the point that my heartbeat virtually increases with the sight of their work. But I can now add Lana to that rarified and exclusive list which includes the likes of Pollack and Johns.

Klimt, meets Gaugain meets Kirchner.
Your paintings are very moving .... I almost never say that about recent art by the way. They seem like dreams, strong dreams ....

These impressions on Gallery 1 came to me in this order:
Eyes eyes eyes. And hidden eyes. And shadow figures, mythical figures, imagined figures. Women at the cusp - of change, of control, of desire, of fear. Skin tones evoking universality and otherness. Settings and objects that are ordinary and exotic. Palette and lines influenced by this artist, no that artist, oh - and this painting doesn't fit any of those influences, and yet is clearly in Lana's style.

Gallery 2 is not a comfortable place. Faces as masks. Pained celebrants. And The Misrepresentative; I thought at first it was "simply" a psychological portrait, but then I realized the hands holding the face belong to someone else.

I watched the story on Private Moss. An amazing story. We each bring our whole lives to the viewing of a painting. For me, soldiers are scary. Any uniform (police, military, religious, high school band) is dehumanizing and intimidating. And thus, I found the story and the painting to be about far more than the incredible courage of the rescuers; it was about humanization amidst inhuman circumstances. I particularly liked what one soldier said, "In that screwed up world we did something right."

"Lana G's work is a fascinating fusion of her African heritage and her contemporary experience living in New York. The vibrant colors of Africa are represented in her modern African style collection while her other works show a muted palate of sophisticated lines and stories. Yet there is an undeniable blending of the two throughout her art. I love to become immersed in her works. They tell me stories and overwhelm my senses. Her style is both unique and powerful. What a life she must have lived."
